Cost of Installing a Power Shower

Power Shower

There is nothing more frustrating than a low water pressure shower where water slowly trickles out leaving you barely any water to shower with! That’s where a power shower comes in. Power showers provide a powerful, and fantastic showering experience, and can either be thermostatically controlled or manually controlled. Similarly, to a mixer shower, a power shower combines water from your hot and cold-water supplies. Power showers use a pump to increase pressure, which makes them a great option for those with low water pressure. Most power showers are installed on gravity-fed systems and are connected to a hot water tank.

How much does it cost to install a Power Shower?

Costs to install a power shower can vary depending on the type of power shower you choose and the tradesperson you hire. However, if you are simply replacing your power shower then this can cost around £40 to £80 per hour for the labour only. For more complex installations which include new pipework, a new power shower and electric cables then the labour cost will increase to between £250 to £350.

Extra costs can be added during the installation. This can be due to old wiring that needs to be replaced as it is not compliant with current regulations, replacing wall tiles, adding a shower screen or any plastering/ redecorating repairs.

Who can install a Power Shower?

All electrical installations, including the installation of new cables, must be checked and be compliant with Part P of the building regulations. This can be done by electricians and many plumbers who are able to certify electrical work so that it is compliant with Part P. When you hire a tradesperson to install your power shower, make sure that they have the required qualifications to be able to work with electrics to ensure that your power shower is installed safely and properly.

What is are the differences between a Power Shower and an Electric Shower?

There's a common misconception that a power shower and an electric shower are the same thing. Although they share many similarities, they both have different purposes. The water used by electric showers is only heated from the cold-water supply. An electric shower does not require a pump as the water is transferred directly from the mains supply. Power showers can only be installed in the specific circumstances, as opposed to an electric shower which can be installed in any bathroom and plumbing system.
