Water Tanks and Immersion Heater Costs

The simple rule when shopping for water tanks and immersion heaters is that the larger the unit, the higher the price. A small immersion heater designed to provide hot water over a sink for hand washing can be bought for as little as £80. Larger units which store enough water for baths or showers start at around £500. Underground water tanks for storing cold water or rainwater start at around £150, although installation costs are high due to the labour and digging required. A hot water tank or cylinder costs between £200 and £500, depending on capacity. In terms of fitting, a plumber will charge on average £280 to replace a hot water tank or immersion heater, plus the cost of the tank itself.
